"We need to assess all economic and financial criteria, consult all partners and take a public decision (on the new power plant in Visaginas)," he told reporters after meeting with President Dalia Grybauskaitė on Friday.
When asked if he did not rule out the Visaginas plant being built, the candidate reiterated the need to re-evaluate the project.
Neverovič, who is now the CEO of LitPol Link, a Lithuanian-Polish joint venture, said that he had outlined his top five priorities to Grybauskaitė.
"I presented five priorities that I think need to be implemented. In the electricity sector, these include LitPol Link and NordBalt (power interconnections with Poland and Sweden), and the assessment of the Visaginas project. As to the gas sector, Klaipėda (liquefied natural gas) terminal project has to be completed as soon as possible. We will invest in a gas link with Poland. In the heating sector, we will seek to promote biofuel use and competition," he said.
Neverovič said that his other priorities were to increase energy efficiency, including by encouraging home renovation, and to keep issues that are important to Lithuania on the European Union's agenda.
Neverovič said that he was a good candidate because he had experience in the energy sector and a vision that concurred with that of Prime Minister-designate Algirdas Butkevičius and of Grybauskaitė.
