The ministry commented on the Commission's reasoned opinion to Lithuania urging the country to fully transpose the electricity and gas directives of the third energy package into national legislation.
"The Energy Ministry underlines that the EC is not calling into question Lithuania's transposition of the third energy package provisions, which provide for the separation of natural gas transmission from supply activities. Nor is the Commission calling into question the proper transposition or implementation in Lithuania of the ownership unbundling model provided for in the electricity directive," it said.
According to the ministry, the EU's executive body is asking for an explanation as to the transposition of certain provisions of the gas directive regarding storage and distribution system operators and consumers' protection, and of certain provisions related to the functions of the national regulator and measures to protect consumer rights.
The ministry said that the separation of control of natural gas transmission activities will be fully implemented on October 31, 2014. In line with the third energy package, the ownership of the electricity distribution company Lesto has been separated from that of the power transmission grid operator Litgrid.
