"We supported the fiscal discipline pact in European Union and tomorrow I am going to send it to the parliament for ratification," Grybauskaitė told journalists on Tuesday after meeting with the visiting President of Malta George Abela.

Grybauskaitė will propose a decree on ratification of the document on Wednesday, her press service said.

Last Wednesday, the government approved the EU fiscal discipline treaty, suggesting that the government should propose the document to the parliament.

Drafted in response to the debt crisis in the euro zone, the agreement stipulates a requirement to envisage provisions on budget discipline in national legal systems, preferably in the Constitution.

Lithuania's Foreign Ministry has proposed that the balanced budget rule should be stipulated in the Constitution or a Constitutional act.

In March, the agreement was signed by Lithuania's Grybauskaitė and leaders of 24 other European countries. The  Czech  Republic and Great Britain did not join the agreement.
