The commissioner underlined the importance of this goal and the necessity for principles of European solidarity and security of supply, the Energy Ministry said in a comment on Thursday.

Neverovič presented the new Lithuanian government's position on strategic energy projects and energy policies to Oettinger during their meeting in Strasbourg on Wednesday, it said.

The minister has said that Lithuania's energy policy objectives remain unchanged and that the new government will seek to ensure the fastest possible implementation of projects for building a natural gas terminal and power and gas interconnections, as well as other projects necessary for a competitive market.

Before deciding on the Visaginas nuclear power plant project, the government will perform a comprehensive analysis of the project and will not take any hasty decisions, the ministry said.
