Lithuania’s Energy Minister Arvydas Sekmokas met with Poland’s high-level officials in Warsaw on Monday and notified them about the progress made in the project of a nuclear power plant in Visaginas (VNPP), including the adoption of a relevant legislative package and positive conclusions on the project issued by the European Commission (EC), the Energy Ministry said in a press release.
Sekmokas was accompanied by the representatives of Japan’s Hitachi, a strategic investor in VNPP, at the meetings with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Waldemar Pawlak and Treasury Minister Mikolaj Budzanowski.
The parties welcomed the progress made in the electricity link project LitPol Link-l and discussed the implementation of the second interconnection LitPol Link-2. The first electricity link between Poland and Lithuania should be launched into operation in 2015.
The participants of the meetings also discussed Poland’s stance on the European Union’s (EU) climate change requirements.
