Attending a conference to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, the president has underlined that over the years of its existence, the Constitutional Court has had to hear a lot of constitutional disputes that sparked public discussions and controversy.

"It is important that we are learning to respect rulings of the Constitutional Court and execute them. Only through the execution of all rulings of the Constitutional Court and understanding that the mission of the Constitution and the Constitutional Court is to ensure long-term success of the state and not to gratify short-term interests, can we ensure stability and the rule of law in the country," the president said, welcoming participants of the conference.

The Constitution of Lithuania was adopted in a referendum on October 25, 1992, and the Seimas of Lithuania adopted the Law on the Constitutional Court in February 1993.
