Lithuania's corruption-fighting body should focus more on party and campaign funding, MPs say

Lithuania's Special Investigation Service, the body fighting corruption in the country, should pay more attention to the funding of political parties and election campaigns, says Artūras Palauskas, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense.

The issue was discussed at a Committee meeting on Wednesday.

"There is no in-depth look into the funding of political parties and election campaign. Currently, there's nobody taking responsibility for this area," Paulauskas told BNS.

In his words, the SIS management have acknowledged that their institution takes interest only in specific corruption cases and does not monitor the process itself.
