A no-confidence was short of votes, as a draft resolution requires at least 71 votes in support of removing Šimašius from the post. Meanwhile, merely 64 of Lithuania's 141 parliamentarians were present at the Tuesday's ballot.
The interpellation against the justice minister was filed in mid-April by 29 MPs who submitted five questions. These focused on the judicial reform, situation in imprisonment institutions, performance of the State Forensic Service, handover of data of political activist Ales Belyatsky to Belarus, and the situation in Garliava.
