According to current electoral system, political parties need to receive at least 5 percent of the vote during general elections to get into the Seimas. There are currently no exception provided by the law.

"A lower election threshold for ethnic minority and regional parties will ensure better participation of ethnic minorities in the legislative process and give them an opportunity to be represented at the top government institutions in Lithuania," Rita Tamašunienė, leader of the party's political group in the Lithuanian parliament, said.

The 2011 census figures show that 84.2 percent of people in Lithuania are Lithuanian, 6.6 percent are Polish, 5.8 percent are Russian, and 1.2 percent are Belarusian.

The Electoral Action of Poles was backed by 5.83 percent of the voters during the last general elections. The party is part of the ruling coalition.
