"We are going to enter to euro zone in 2015. Now we are going to prepare a special program for entering the euro zone," the prime minister told a news conference in Estonia on Thursday.
Butkevčius, a member of the ruling Social Democratic Party, also expressed support to Latvia's efforts to introduce the euro next year. Estonia joined the euro zone in 2011.
The prime minister intends to discuss the euro adoption with president of the central Bank of Lithuania, Vitas Vasiliauskas, on Friday.
Economists say rampant inflation may be the biggest obstacle on Lithuania's path to the euro zone.
