"We would like to come up with ways together with local governments to find venues and methodical assistance to those who will work with children – teachers or those who are not teachers but enthusiasts. We see a rising number of such initiatives and we want to support them," the minister told journalists after a meeting of the Commission for Coordination of Affairs of National Minorities on Thursday.
In his words, the initiatives to teach children their national languages are reported in smaller and larger communities.
Amid the revival wave of national communities, education-related matters are addressed by a task force operating in the ministry and involving representatives of various national groups.
"Since the beginning of this year, a task force headed by Vice-Minister Vaidas Bačys has been working – it covers all problems national minorities are faced with, and this is where we will make the key decisions through conversations and enhanced dialogue," Steponavičius said.
