The Tuesday resolution was adopted 79-36 with six abstentions.
Based on the decision of the previous Seimas, the mandate of the election panel led by Zenonas Vaigauskas would have expired on 13 December.
The ruling parties believe dismissal was a too-stringent punishment for the Central Electoral Commission. They say the election panel's violations during the recent Seimas elections were partly determined by legal loopholes. Besides, a new panel would have not managed to prepare for by-elections in three single-member constituencies scheduled for 3 March.
The Constitutional Court has ruled that some of the Lithuanian Central Electoral Commission's decisions regarding results of recent general elections were in violation of the election law.
The commission was said to have ignored reports on vote rigging in certain constituencies when it approved election results.
