On Thursday, Speaker of the Seimas Irena Degutienė received signatures of 55 MPs under a call to hold an extraordinary parliamentary session on 16 July with a item on the agenda - the referendum.
Pursuant to the Statute of the Seimas, "an extraordinary sessions shall be convened by the Chairman of the Seimas on the written proposal of at least one-third of all Members of the Seimas." That means 47 of 141 MPs.
An extraordinary session is needed to call a referendum on 14 October along the general elections.
Following the Constitution, Parliament's spring session ends on 30 June.
