On Wednesday, the Commission looked into a draft resolution on a referendum on the legalization of dual citizenship and decided to make an indefinite break during which it plans to hold discussions, organize a conference on the issue, and look for opportunities to carry out a public survey.
"We need to find the best way how to formulate the amendment of the Constitution for it to take into account everyone's interests," Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė, chairwoman of the Constitutional Commission, told journalists.
Under the existing laws, a Lithuanian citizen cannot have citizenship of another country. Since the provision is written into the Lithuanian Constitution, it can only be amended via a referendum.
