The committee's chairman Vytautas Kurpuvesas told BNS that five members of the committee voted against and four voted in favor.
"I was against rejection, and arguments why they don’t want the introduction of e-voting is that they fear the principle of secrecy of voting cannot be assured," Kurpuvesas told BNS.
Supporters proposed introducing e-voting in all elections and referenda for Lithuanian citizens living abroad by allowing them to vote on the Central Electoral Commission's website.
Lithuanians living abroad have asked on numerous occasions for the opportunity to vote online, but any initiatives in the parliament have failed to gain support.
