Lithuanian parliamentary speaker: New political season will involve much politicizing and grand gesturing

Lithuania's Parliamentary Speaker Vydas Gedvilas says that the upcoming fall session will be rather tense, as it will feature events of the Lithuanian presidency over the European Union (EU) Council, as well as elections for president and the European Parliament.

In his words to the Lietuvos Žinios daily, the upcoming political season will involve much politicizing and grand gestures.

"I would personally want it to be productive but calm. I am certain about the first point but have doubts about the second," the daily cited Gedvilas as saying.

"Parties will want to show off and highlight themselves, and this will certainly be done during the session. Anyhow, I expect colleagues to be correct and tolerant, furthermore, I hope that they will speak the language of argumentation rather than emotions and interpretations," he said.

The Lithuanian parliament will open its regular fall session on September 10.
