According to the athlete, his decision to join the conservative party is based on his rightist political views, the party has said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Krungolcas has taken an active interest in Lithuania's political and economic life and believes now is the right time to express his views not only through words but also through actions," the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats said in the statement.

The party adds that the pentathlete does not discard the possibility of running in local and general elections.
