Lithuanian president calls on honorary consuls to support upcoming EU presidency

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the country's honorary consuls on Tuesday and thanked them for promoting the country's name. The president called on the consuls to actively support the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2013.

"Next year, Lithuania will have a huge responsibility to preside over the European Union. Your contribution to presenting our country's presidency goals, priorities and tasks to be carried out will be of great significance. It’s a great opportunity for us all to promote Lithuania's name internationally," the president aid.

Grybauskaitė and the consuls also discussed the political situation in Lithuania ahead of the upcoming Seimas elections, the country's economic recovery, the commitment to stick to fiscal discipline, energy projects and results of the NATO Chicago Summit.

The Lithuanian president also underlined that consuls' direct communication with businessmen who want to invest or start business in Lithuania, artists looking for opportunities, and scientists who can contribute to the development of science in Lithuania was a priceless support to our country.

A meeting of honorary consuls is taking place in Lithuania this week. Lithuania has 170 honorary consuls in 74 countries.
