The bill aims to define the status of non-governmental organizations, the terms of their cooperation with state institutions and the possibilities to take part in decision-making, and provision of public services, according to the President's Office.
"Strong non-governmental organizations contribute to democratic development and help build a society that is more civil. Being closest to people, they efficiently solve problems, therefore, it is crucial to expand their potential to provide social, cultural, and educational services. Their voices must be heard in the solution of issues that are important for the society," the president said.
The bill is the first step in the regulation of NGO status and operations. It aims to specify the legal entities listed as non-governmental organizations, which is important for cooperation between NGOs and the state, as well as provision of state funding, the President's Office said.
