According to the prime minister, sports infrastructure also depends on efforts of local authorities. In this case, Kubilius gave credit to Kaunas and Klaipėda.

"Despite all crisis periods, our government has spent big money on developing sports infrastructure; I would like to emphasize – big money as compared to other areas," Kubilius told journalists on Monday.

"Quite a number of sport centres have been renovated or built recently. Obviously, we cannot renovate all sport bases. But we have spent hundreds of millions of litas on multifunctional sports arenas," the Lithuanian prime minister said.

Discussions on sport infrastructure in Lithuania were revived after Lithuanian Olympic medalists urged the country's government to pay more attention to facilities necessary for athletes to train.
