"There are no doubts at the moment. One has to have full information before making decisions or drawing certain conclusions. One piece of information, provided by the head of the Public Procurement Service, is that tender procedures were breached by changing the terms during the course of the bidding, while the director (of Klaipėdos Nafta) said in his statement that he had obtained approval for the changes from all institutions," he told reporters on Thursday.
On Friday, the government is holding a meeting with Klaipėdos Nafta's management and specialists to discuss the LNG terminal project, the prime minister said.
Butkevičius said a week ago that Klaipėdos Nafta's CEO should take responsibility for delays in selecting a contractor for the construction of a pipeline linking the planned LNG terminal to the country's grid.
"I think that the (results) of the first tender were contested not because of loopholes in the legislation, but because of his (Masiulis') excessive credulity or trust in the entities which participated in the tender," he said last Friday.
Some market players interpreted Butkevičius' statement as an indication that the Social Democrats intended to replace Masiulis, who was appointed to the post by the previous government.
