Minister of Culture to be "taken over" by another party

Lithuania's Liberal Movement plans to "take over" Minister of Culture Arūnas Gelūnas and his ministerial post from their coalition partner Liberal and Center Union.

"We'll consider a decision for Arūnas Gelūnas to represent the Liberal Movement in this government," leader of the Liberal Movement and Minister of Transport, Eligijus Masiulis, told journalists on Tuesday.

According to the coalition agreement, the Liberal and Center Union is entitled to delegate a minister of culture. But Masiulis claims the coalition agreement has not matched reality for a long time.

"In any case, the coalition agreement has not matched reality for a long time in terms of the ministerial quotas and the fact that the prime minister and the speaker are representatives of the same party, despite the coalition agreement saying otherwise. I believe all coalition partners will inevitably have to discuss that and review the coalition agreement," Masiulis said.
