Over 4,000 Lithuanians join political parties this year

Over 4,000 Lithuanians joined the country's political parties this year. All in all, political parties now have 112,000 members, or 3.78 percent of the population, the Lietuvos Žinios daily reports.

Almost half of the new party members joined the ruling Order and Justice party. Meanwhile the non-parliamentary Liberal and Center Union lost almost a fifth of its members.

Figures from the Ministry of Justice show that the largest ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania was joined by 940 people and has 17,900 members in total. The Labor Party (laborists) has 17,700 members, the Order and Justice party, 15,000, and the opposition Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, 12,400 members.
