Social Democrats' Algirdas Butkevičius: Constitutional Court cleared doubts and confirmed we're on right track

The Lithuanian Constitutional Court's ruling to approve the distribution of mandates in multi-mandate voting cleared doubts and confirmed that the three parties forming the new center-left coalition are on the right track, the Social Democratic Party's leader Algirdas Butkevičius said on Saturday afternoon.

"All doubts were cleared and there should be more clarity in the society. I believe the Constitutional Court also showed we're on the right track," Butkevičius told BNS.

In his words, the Constitutional Court's finding suggests that talks about violations were exaggerated.

"The Constitutional Court confirmed exaggeration because the victory of the parliamentary elections probably went to wrong parties, and the process dragged out regardless of the harm to entire Lithuania," the Social Democratic leader said.

The Constitutional Court ruled that while the Labour Party's candidate list should exclude candidates who violated election regulations, the number of seats assigned to each party in multi-mandate voting should not change.
