"We wanted the department's director (Gediminas Grina) to attend the presentation, therefore, the date had to be adjusted to his trips abroad, the presentation is planned for next week," Anušauskas told BNS on Monday.
In comment of the materials that the committee requested should be amended, the committee's chief said earlier this month that the document would contain data about the scope of operational measures.
Anušauskas then told BNS that the number of operational measures applications is a few times smaller than the data published by the European Commission (EC), which said that Lithuania's law-enforcement had made more than 85,000 inquiries to mobile telecommunications operators over 2008. The numbers triggered indignation of some politicians over what they said was mass spying.
"The report will reveal the numbers that caused a scandal in the past; just as we guessed, the data shows that the EC data was exaggerated by a factor of 4-5," Anušauskas told BNS.
After discussing the department's report for last year in April, the parliamentary committee said that part of the document should be made public. Anušauskas said the move would boost public trust in the State Security Department, activities of which are often viewed with prejudice.
