The new ruling coalition promises a value-based foreign policy, but political scientists say that in relations with Poland, which is under criticism for breaches of human rights and the rule of law, it is not worth expecting firm declarations from the ruling parties. Warsaw is too important a partner in military and energy security and furthermore, some of the Polish ruling elite, in response to Vilnius’ remarks, could point to the problems the Polish minority is facing in Lithuania.
