The quarantine, opposition and the president shook the cabinet’s ship, but didn’t overturn it

This cabinet risks going down in history as yet another crisis cabinet – this time due to the coronavirus pandemic. With a difficult situation having emerged in the country, minister seats went to individuals without time to even warm up in major league politics. But already during their first days, they had to pass unpopular decisions – urgently and severely increase quarantine restrictions. This earned the public’s discontent, mistakes were made, which led to criticism from the opposition and President Gitanas Nausėda. While the restrictions are gradually being relaxed, the cabinet remains on edge – it is unclear what turn the coronavirus situation will take, business support is stalling, budget revision awaits.
