The Seimas’ start – no revolutions, cabinet in charge, friction between the ruling bloc and G. Nausėda, an opposition looking to find its bearings

Working for a hundred days now, the Seimas has performed the key tasks that it faced during this period: approving the prime minister appointment of Ingrida Šimonytė, blessing the government programme and approving the budget. While the parliament is above the cabinet on the constitutional hierarchy, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the most important decisions have landed in the cabinet’s hands and this is precisely the institution playing first fiddle. Another important player – the Presidential Palace – is attempting to keep up and has also actively engaged in certain struggles for power.
