"I was saddened by the president's three-year review when she said she was never wrong, didn’t have to give explanations and be accountable to the public. I believe these are dangerous statements," Zuokas said at his press conference on Thursday.
"I am against holding presidential elections without alternatives or with just one viable candidate. Today I am inviting the public to look for potential trustworthy candidates together," the Vilnius mayor said.
Zuokas sid he was ready to lead the election campaign for such a candidate. The politician also said he believed former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus would also join the search for an alternative presidential candidate.
The president's term in Lithuania is five years. The next presidential election is taking place in 2014.
