War with the LRT: concerning spike in financing and advertising remains, but politicians interested in management

The Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) receives greatly increased financing so as to not broadcast advertising. Currently, its financing is three times larger than it was in 2014. However, advertising remains in the LRT, just now it is in the shape of patronage. This has sparked friction with commercial news media, which lives off of advertising revenue, discontent has emerged in the public as well. The questions of reducing LRT financing and fully prohibiting any advertising are already being discussed in the Seimas, however the risk emerges that politicians will exploit this in order to enhance their influence on LRT management.
