"The number of non-readers is pretty high," Alma Littera director Danguolė Viliūnienė told a press conference on Thursday.
Figures show, however, that the percentage of non-readers fell from 52 percent of adults and 35 percent of children last year.
Most often non-readers are males from all age groups with unfinished secondary education, low income and living in rural areas.
Meanwhile, the most active readers are retired women with university education, high income and living in cities.
1,003 people aged 18 and over took part in the survey carried out by public opinion and market research company Vilmorus.
