The ENERGEX exercise is part of the 16th rotation of Lithuanian troops headed for the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-16) in Ghor, the Defense Ministry said.

Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius, director of the NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence that contributed to the exercise scenario, told BNS that the aim of the training was to establish the effects of shortage of energy resources in the operation region upon the course of the operation.

"First of all, the exercise is the so-called staff exercise. It will mainly involve planning elements, with no running and firing. The exercise scenario is planned in a way that there will be a colder winter, interrupted supplies of energy resources to our camp in Afghanistan, and the troops will have to plan and carry out combat tasks while saving energy resources significantly," Petkevičius said.

According to him, energy security challenges are a problem for Armed Forces of Lithuania and also for those of many other NATO countries.
