Agriculture Ministry: Export of Lithuanian dairy products to Russia continues

Agriculture Ministry does not have any official information that Russia’s Customs has started suspending the imports of Lithuanian dairy products, the minister’s spokeswoman, Ramunė Visockytė, has informed BNS.

Meanwhile, a truck carrying products by Žemaitijos Pienas, one of Lithuanian dairy companies, crossed a Russian customs checkpoint successfully on Tuesday morning.

“A Žemaitijos Pienas truck with products crossed the Russian customs checkpoint 10 minutes ago,” Visockytė told BNS.

Rimantas Krasuckis, the director of Agriculture and Food Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, told BNS that the ministry had not yet received any official information from Russia.

“We don’t have any official information. Measures are being taken before sending the documents. Maybe the traders were the first to feel that. Unfortunately, such practices are applied. We were used to different behavior since Russia used to notify about future actions,” he told BNS.

Russia‘s consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor announced on its website on Monday that it had instructed the customs office not to allow Lithuanian dairy products into the country over quality concerns. The watchdog referred to certain Lithuanian dairy companies, including Pieno Žvaigždės, and Rokiškio Suris, as allegedly not complying with quality requirements.
