Champion shooter Daina Gudzinevičiūtė elected president of Lithuanian National Olympic Committee

Sydney Olympic shooting champion Daina Gudzinevičiūtė has been elected president of Lithuania's National Olympic Committee on Friday, beating discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna, an Olympic champion of 2000 and 2004.

Gudzinevičiūtė received 57 votes while Alekna was supported by 43 votes.

Gudzinevičiūtė will replace Artūras Poviliūnas who has been heading the committee since 1988.

Under Poviliūnas' leadership, Lithuanian athletes have won 21 medals, including 6 golden, 5 silver, and 10 bronze, at six Summer Olympics.
