The unspecified explosive device ripped under the vehicle, which was damaged during the incident, the Defense Ministry said.

Captain Marius Varna of the Lithuanian Armed Forces' Joint Staff told BNS that Olekas had already left Chagcharan before the explosion.

Four members of the Lithuanian Military Advisory Team were aboard the HMMWV. They were to attend a firing exercise of the Afghan National Army. The incident occurred about three kilometers from the camp of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

This is the second incident in Chagcharan this month – a soldier of the Afghan National Army fired a grenade at a Lithuanian armored vehicle on April 7, leaving two Lithuanian soldiers injured. One of them is still undergoing treatment.

The two incidents were reported after more than a year of incident-free period in Ghor against Lithuanian soldiers.

All Lithuanian troops are scheduled to leave the province in the fall of 2013.
