Finland’s President sees it useful for countries to meet euro adoption criteria

Finland’s President Sauli Niinisto says it is useful for countries to meet the euro adoption criteria and supports Lithuania’s ambition to join the euro zone.

“I think it’s favorable for both countries if you comply with the accession criteria, and you, as far as I understand, have already met most of the requirements. But I am no teacher and no adviser. I understand that Lithuania and Latvia want to join the monetary union and we truly support this ambition,” he said in an interview to Verslo Žinios business daily.

Finland’s President, accompanied by a business delegation, will pay an official visit to Lithuania on May 14-15.

“I will be accompanied by a business delegation while on a visit to Lithuania. It would be interesting to hear the opinions of its representatives later,” he said.
