Half Lithuanian marriages end in divorce

More than 19,000 couples married and over 10,000 divorced in Lithuania in 2011, shows the latest data published by Statistics Lithuania.

As compared with 2010 figures, the number of marriages last year went up by 531 (3 percent), while the number of divorces increased by 336 (also 3 percent).

In 2011, six marriages and three divorces were reported per each 1,000 of the population.

According to Statistics Lithuania, if the tendency of the past years continues, half of all wedded couples will divorce in the future.
