Jimmy Wales: Wikipedia unveils differences between Lithuanians and Poles

A free online encyclopedia can be a great tool to explore differences between nations, for example, between Lithuanians and Poles, Jimmy Wales, a co-founder of Wikipedia, has said at LOGIN conference in Vilnius.

The differences were particularly manifest in those instances when nations took rather diverging views on certain historical events, such as historical battles, he said.

“The Lithuanian-language Wikipedia has a Lithuanian version [of the battle of Grunwald], and the Polish-language Wikipedia has a Polish version. The English-language text included both versions and an explanation why these two versions are different,” Wales said at Vilnius-hosted web trends conference LOGIN on Thursday.

LOGIN conference of progress expects to draw about 2,000 Internet enthusiasts this year, slightly less than last year.
