Kirkilas: South Korea is a great partner to Lithuania in innovations

According to the Bloomberg innovation index 2019, South Korea is the most innovative country in the world. Since Lithuania continues to strengthen its positions in innovations, the country also seeks to develop its relations with South Korea, especially in the laser industry, also in life sciences and financial technologies, where it has huge potential. Both countries should also cooperate in promoting creativity and the creative industries.

This was the position expressed by Gediminas Kirkilas, Vice-Speaker of the Seimas, Chair of the Committee for European Affairs, member of the group for interparliamentary relations with the Republic of Korea.

On 3-4 June, a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, headed by the Speaker Moon Hee-sang, visited Lithuania. On June 3, they had a meeting with Seimas Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis, with G. Kirkilas, Juozas Bernatonis, the Chair of the Seimas Committee for Foreign Affairs and other parliamentarians participating as well.

South Korea has made unprecedented economic growth during the last four decades and has become an economy of high technologies. The country is concentrated on science, inventions, high technologies and recently on creativity.

The Seimas group for interparliamentary relations with the Republic of Korea was established in 2002 and has been working since.
