"Please be informed that the visit of the Kosovar foreign minister has been canceled due to urgent talks with Serbia," the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry's Public Relations Department told BNS.
Through European Union (EU) mediation, Serbia and its breakaway Kosovo region last month reached preliminary agreement, recognizing the jurisdiction of the Kosovar central administration dominated by Albanians in respect to Serbs living in the country. In exchange, Kosovo agrees to grant broad autonomy to the Serbian minority.
Shortly after, the European Commission recommended opening talks with Serbia on EU membership and starting negotiations with Kosovo on the stabilization and association agreement. The issues should be in focus during Lithuania's EU Council presidency in the second half of this year and were to be discussed during Monday's meeting between Lithuanian and Kosovar foreign ministers.
Lithuania recognized the Republic of Kosovo back in 2008. Five EU nations still consider Kosovo a part of Serbia.
