Lithuania below EU average in terms of gender equality

Lithuania is below the EU average in terms of gender equality, according to an index by the Vilnius-based European Institute for Gender Equality.

Figures show that the EU average is 54 points out of 100, and Lithuania's result is 43.6.

Sweden produced the highest score with 74.3, and Bulgaria (37) is at the bottom of the list.

The index is calculated taking into account the situation in the areas of work, money, knowledge, time, power, and health.

Lithuania scored best in the area of health (84.9), despite still being below the EU average (90.1).

In the area of work, Lithuania received 61 out of 100 and was below the EU average of 69.

The country's closest result to the EU average (48.9) was in the area of education and training (47.4).

In terms of money, the situation in Lithuania was evaluated with 41.5, compared to the EU average of 68.9, with only Bulgaria and Romania scoring worse.

In terms of political and economic power, Lithuania's index is 32.1 and is not far away from the EU average of 38.

In terms of time spent on care and social activity, equality was also not ensured in many European countries (the EU average is 38.8), and the situation is even worse in Lithuania (24.1).
