Held by the Roman Catholic Church and the parliament's office, the conference will feature a report by papal biographer George Weigel, the parliament's Public Relations Division has said.

Vilnius City Municipality said that the Lithuanian State Symphonic Orchestra will perform Missa Magna Beatificationis by Lorenc, one of the most famous modern composers in Poland.

Two photo exhibitions at the parliament and the Cathedral Square are opening in Vilnius on Wednesday.

Under the program approved by the Seimas board, the anniversary of the papal visit is celebrated on September 4-10 and will include a conference at Vilnius University and unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to the visit of John Paul II.

The papal visit will also be celebrated during the first session of the parliament's new fall session on September 10. Afterwards, flowers will be laid at the monument to fighters for Lithuanian freedom where Pope John Paul II prayed during his visit in Lithuania.

Pope John Paul II visited Lithuania on September 4-8, 1993. He has so far been the first and only pope to come to the Baltic state.
