The ministry cited data published by the United Nations (UN), which said the administration's actions in the city of El Hula killed 90 civilians, including 34 children.

"Lithuania supports the decisions of the European Union's (EU) member-states to declare Syria's diplomatic envoys in their countries as unwanted. The move is a direct EU response to the bloodstained repressions carried out by the Syrian administration for months against its citizens, as well as its refusal to handle the crisis peacefully," reads the press release.

According to the communiqué, Lithuania supports the efforts of the United Nations and the Arab League's Special Envoy Kofi Annan, calling upon the Syrian administration institutions to meet its commitments to the UN that have been stipulated in the Annan six-chapter plan and approved with the UN Security Council's resolutions.

Lithuania has proposed two candidacies for the UN-led international monitoring mission in Syria, with the candidacies yet to be approved by the UN.

The Syrian Embassy to Belarus is accredited for Lithuania, as well. A new ambassador has not yet been appointed.

According to data published by the UN, at least 9,000 people have been killed during the 15 months of disturbances in Syria.
