The Ministry of Economy has delegated most of the attachés – 19, followed by the Ministry of Agriculture (13), the Ministry of National Defense (12), and the Ministry of Culture (12).
The Ministry of Finance has ten attachés working at Lithuania's representation to the EU in Brussels. Their number increased from 6 last year. The Ministry of Social Security and Labor has attachés and one deputy at Lithuania's representation to the EU.
The Ministry of Transport and Communication has 8 attachés, including a transport attaché, in China.
"It seems unclear what added value they create. For example, a culture attaché in France or an agriculture attaché in Rome. One cannot measure the level of their work and by renouncing such positions we would be able to save quite a lot of money. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could take over these matters," Conservative MP Kęstutis Masiulis has said.
The Ministry of Economy spent around 1 million litas (around EUR 3.45 million) on attachés and the Ministry of National Defense spent around 3 million litas.
