Lithuania proposes new ambassador to Holy See

Lithuania's Cabinet of Ministers agreed to recall Vytautas Ališauskas from the leading position at the country's mission to Vatican and appoint Irena Vaišvilaitė, former adviser to president Valdas Adamkus, as the new ambassador to the Holy See.

Vaišvilaitė should assume the new position as of 16 July.

She currently works as vice-rector for administrative and infrastructure affairs at the European Humanities University.

Lithuanian ambassadors are appointed by the president upon nomination from the foreign minister with a go-ahead from the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee and the government.
