The Lithuanian government decided on Wednesday to propose to President Dalia Grybauskaitė to recall Šalkauskas as ambassador to Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile.

The government has not decided on who will replace Šalkauskas.

Šalkauskas has represented Lithuania in Argentina since 2009 and is the first head of the country's embassy in Buenos Aires having an ambassadorial rank. Before his appointment, Lithuania was represented by several chargés d'affaires.

The Buenos Aires office is Lithuania's only embassy in Latin America.

Lithuania and Argentina established diplomatic relations in August 1991.
