The final game in Slovenia was a struggle to the very last second, but Lithuania secured a victory 50:49. Egidijus Mockevičius contributed 11 points, Žygimantas Skučas added 10 and Vytenis Čižauskas – nine.
This was the 5th consecutive triumph of the generation coached by Kazys Maksvytis in international tournaments. At the age of 15, they won the Olympic festival and later become European championship of U16 and U18, winning the world gold in U19.
"What a spectacular path of sports victories, starting with U16 and ending with today's finals," Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė said in a congratulatory message.
"Headed by coach Kazys Maksvytis, you triumphed in all age groups to become European and world champions. This is a successful sports flight Lithuania has not seen in its basketball history so far," she said.
In her words, the Lithuanian youth team is an inspiring example to all young people in the country of efforts to seek a goal by way of individual talents and team spirit.
FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship bronze went to Spain that defeated Serbia 67:66.
