"It is necessary to renew peace talks as soon as possible. Lithuania supports a decision toward the peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine," Linkevičius said in a press release.

The ministers discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Palestine, Lithuania's upcoming EU presidency, and the Middle East peace process and regional security issues.

"Lithuania is open to dialogue with Palestine and is ready to share its experience of democratic reforms. Europe supports the Palestinian financial stability, which is necessary in order to carry out the necessary reforms," Linkevičius said.

Every year since 2009, Lithuania has carried out at least one development cooperation project with the Palestinian Authority in administrative capacity building, non-governmental organizations' activities and other areas, according to the press release.

Lithuania in 2009-2010 delegated a police officer to the EU Police Mission in the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS). This year, the country plans to accredit a diplomat to Ramallah.
