Lithuania's Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture have already backed his nomination.
Liekis will replace Professor Arvydas Virgilijus Matulionis who has been a Commission member since 2008.
In 2002-2008, Liekis served as an acting expert at the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, and was appointed a deputy to a member of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance in 2008.
Liekis is currently a professor at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, central Lithuania.
The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance is the Council of Europe’s independent human rights monitoring body specialized in combating racism, discrimination, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and intolerance. It has 47 independent members from all countries of the Council of Europe.
