"France is an important partner for Lithuania and a supporter of unified Europe, therefore, I hope that your leadership over France will lead to further reinforcement of the relations between Lithuania and France, and the dialogue and cooperation within the European Union will be enriched with ideas and initiatives that are important to our countries and all of Europe," Grybauskaitė said in a congratulatory message.
In the Sunday's elections, Socialist Hollande secured 51.6 percent of the vote and defeated incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Hollande was favoured by French citizens residing in Lithuania, too. On Sunday, 159 French nationals came to cast their ballots to the French Embassy in Vilnius. Of them, 80 voted for Hollande, 73 supported Sarkozy, and 6 ballots were invalidated.
